What's on top?
If you've recently subscribed for our monthly update, welcome! Every month (or so!) the tCA team share online resources, updates and details of events to strengthen your campaigning skills and your capacity to build powerful campaigns and social movements. The update goes out to about 6,500 people in 45 countries. Subscribers are the source of many of the resources we share here. Thanks!
In Australia, the political news is pretty grim. Campaigners working for social and environmental justice are reeling from the re-election of the climate change-denying, regressive conservative national government. Political circumstances looked set to improve for many people's campaigns if things had changed. If that's you, and you're taking it hard, be sure to check out the Tips for Election Recovery link in this month's enews (below). These tips are an initiative of The Commons Social Change Library, an exciting new project led by former tCA associate Holly Hammond. Thanks Holly!
It can be hard to stay positive, focused and healthy as we work for change. You'll also find a collection of 36 resources and links on 'sustainable activism' by searching the Change Agency's 'Build your own campaigner's toolkit', just one way to search tCA's extensive resource library.
Connecting with other progressive campaigners is another great way to think big and long term, and to stay positive. Progress 2019, June 20-21 in Melbourne, promises to be huge. Organisers expect 1700 participants, including folks campaigning on health, human rights, social justice, inequality and climate change. They've kindly offered tCA subscribers discounted registration. Use the code changeagency-progress2019 when you register here. The program looks fantastic. Further details below.
Finally, we wanted to let folks in Victoria know about an upcoming workshop you might like to join. This year's cohort in tCA's Community Organising Fellowship will be leading a free half-day workshop for campaigners and organisers on Wednesday morning June 5 at CommonGround, an hour north of Melbourne. There'll be six workshop sessions on circles of commitment; the power of story; relational meetings; cutting the issue; forcefield analysis and power mapping. We still have half a dozen places available. Full details and registration here. Watch our calendar and next month's enews for further workshops later in the year, including a deep democracy workshop with Pru Gell in October.
