What's on top? This month's enews opens with an apology. I recently discovered that 1500 subscribers had not been receiving the newsletter due to a glitch in our platform. That's fixed now. If you subscribed months ago and wondered about our long silence (sorry!) you might like to mine previous editions for handy resources. Since late 2015, our energy has been focused on publishing the second collection of training resources in our People Power Manual series. The second edition of the Campaign Strategy guide includes a terrific new process guide to assess political opportunity and our Community Organising guide will be sent to the printers in April. We're excited about how it's coming together and grateful to the many activist educators who are contributing to the collection. Watch this space for news of a launch. The 2016 Community Organising Fellowship kicks off next month with a 10 day residential workshop in Sydney. Be sure to drop me a line if you'd like to hear when we invite applications later this year for the 2017 Fellowship. One of our guest facilitators, David Hunt, will stay on in Sydney to lead a one-day workshop on community organising strategy (details below). This month's newsletter includes a new addition to our collection of articles and case studies. Pepe Clarke, known and admired in the Australian environment movement, has shared with us his paper on the pros, cons and strategic considerations involved in corporate engagement. Reccommended February readingThe 'rebels, reformers, citizens and change agents' subject header for this month's enews references Bill Moyer's 'Movement Action Plan' framework to understand successful social change movements. MAP identifies four essential roles or orientations that work together strategically and eight stages encountered by many social movement campaigns. Vale Bill! I am sure he would be amazed how many activists and campaigners are now familiar with MAP and draw on it o analyse and strategise. Search for 'movement action plan' using the 'search this site' function and you'll find 16 downloads, resources and links that explain and apply MAP. Happy reading!

Personal conversations are our most powerful tool for affecting people’s mindsets. However, asking people to keep track of complex ideas in conversations is a bit like asking them to play mental chess. New forms of collective action are emerging in the UK. With growing frequency people are taking to the streets to defend the rights of citizens against outside forces; this trend is unfolding alongside an increasing and often jarring rhetoric of devolution and localism.
