tCA news - july 2010

what's on top

It's five years this month since Sam and I sent out tCA's first enews. I remember the conversation: "What would we put in a monthly enews? Are there enough events, resources and opportunities for activist learning to justify a regular update?" This month's enews goes out to more than 2000 recipients. So welcome, if you're one of the 52 new subscribers this month. And "thanks!" if you've been receiving it for a while. Your feedback and contributions each month make this one of the most rewarding aspects of our work.

great online resources

This month, all but one of our featured online resources focus on letter-writing. Many social movement groups rely heavily on letter-writing, believing that targets (politicians or public servants) will adopt policies or practices when they receive a critical mass of supportive letters. Five websites we've found useful are:

Omar Ahmad: Political change with pen and paper

Bernard Keane's advice on writing to politicians

ACTNOW's letter writing guide

PETA's guide (check the 'letters to the legislators' section)

Electronic Frontier's letter-writing guide

Climate camp tv - CCTV broadcasts films from the Global Camp for Climate Action movement. Bringing in news reports, documentaries, live studio shows and the training of citizen journalists. Even if you're not a climate activist, this is a great source of inspiration.
