tCA news - april 2009

what's on top

Along with many of the groups we work with, the Change Agency celebrated Australia's endorsement of the United Nations Indigenous Rights Declaration last week. This long-overdue alignment with global consensus challenges Australians to address ongoing discrimination and disadvantage.

Upcoming opportunities to get together with others to address reconciliation include National Sorry Day on May 26th and National Reconciliation Week May 27th to June 3rd.

This last month Jason and Sam had the privilege of working with the South East Queensland Traditional Owners Alliance and members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community who are currently making their submission to the regional planning process.

In other news - tCA's Anthony Kelly was interviewed by 3CR community radio this month as the Melbourne Rainforest Action Group celebrated its 20th anniversary. During the late 1980s, RAG's campaign saw protestors blockading ships carrying rainforest timbers leading to a nosedive in tropical timber imports.
